The Road to Destruction

I've walked through the valley of shadows
Too many times in my life
With the sunshine always eluding
My continual struggle with life

The valley gets deeper and darker
As onwards I hurry past
Oh where are the flowers and the sunlight?
Will this nightmare forever last?

Is this the path to destruction?
How come I have reached it so soon?
For now it is truly midnight
But yesterday was still noon!

Yesterday I did see the ending
Although it was so far away
But today it seems gone forever
Only deeper and darker the pain!
