Childhood Days

In my silent world of pain
Where everything appears inane
A lonely place for me to be
I try to bear it gracefully

To lose all trace and track of time
With noises all around
But yet the silence deafens me
The world swims round and round

When I was young the world was wide
I was of tender age
Although a bloody war raged on
Just part of history's page

The world to me seemed wonderful
With sunshine, birds and flowers
Happy days in childish ways
No worries of world powers

We had no toys, just girls and boys
To play with in the streets
Swinging on the lamp-posts
Or hopscotch for fast feet

Skipping was another game
Hide and seek as well
Such innocent ways in heinous days
Our only fear, school bell

For I would linger in such bliss
And daisies wild would pick
To take to teacher, I would smile
It saved me from school stick
