Soldier, oh soldier, come home from the war
We all need you badly the same as before
Your room is all ready as we sit and wait
With each of us eager to open the gate
Soldier, oh soldier, remember the day
When we were all crying as you went away
The time has passed slowly with nothing to do
But gaze at the picture that we took of you
When tears had subsided
We wrote every day
Although it was hard
Knowing just what to say
And when you return
You must put down your gun
Put on your best civvies
Look after your son
Soldier, oh soldier
Until that day
We'll always love you
And hope you will stay
